De organisatie Kenyacare
Kenya Care Foundation was founded in March 2008. During a volunteer project in Mtwapa the founders, Desiré Roes and Ietje van Hintum, got the idea to support single HIV positive mothers in building a full life.
Behind the generous smiles and friendliness of these women lies an unimaginable misery. They have no income, their husbands have left them or died of AIDS, they are rejected by their family and environment. There is medical care, but there are no opportunities for these women to earn their own income, with which they can improve their health through good nutrition and send their children to school.
OUR GOAL
Kenya Care Foundation stimulates and develops targeted projects in Kenya at the local level. The emphasis is on implementing projects which benefit HIV positive single mothers and their children. The projects are effective and practical, aimed at improving housing, healthcare and the (living) environment in personal family situations.
TARGET GROUP
HIV positive (tested) women, single, with school-age children, without property, without a job or income, living below the poverty line. In selecting participants, the criterion is that the women have at least a 3 to 4 year life expectancy.
WHERE WE WORK
The Kenya Care Foundation carries out its work in the Mtwapa region, about 15 kilometers north of Mombasa on the east coast of Kenya. In this region there is a lot of HIV/AIDS.
